A Phoenix pet parent got more than she bargained for when she booked a routine grooming session — and instead got a front-row seat to her groomer’s emotional meltdown.
According to the client, who welcomed a new mobile groomer into her home this week, her last experience left a sour taste — and not just for her two Shih Tzus.
“She flat out told me she hates her job,” the client told The Post. “I couldn’t believe it. I mean, if you don’t like working with animals, why are you in this field?”
The fresh-faced groomer, who asked not to be named but spoke exclusively with The Post, said it’s unfortunately not uncommon in the pet care industry.
“There are so many people who get into this line of work for the wrong reasons — maybe they think it’s easy money or just want to play with dogs all day,” they said. “But this is hard, emotional work. And if you’re not in it for the right reasons, the pets — and their people — feel it.”
Industry insiders say that while pet grooming can be rewarding, it’s also physically demanding and emotionally taxing — especially when the love for animals isn’t genuine.
“Bad apples can spoil the bunch,” the groomer added. “Those of us who truly love this work are constantly trying to rebuild trust and show clients that their pets are in caring, capable hands.”
The Shih Tzus, for their part, were reported to be fluffy, friendly, and free of drama.
“Thank dog for that,” their new groomer laughed.
